Description
What is overactive bladder (OAB) : Overactive bladder (OAB) is a characterized by symptoms of urinary urgency syndrome, and is often accompanied by symptoms of urinary frequency and nocturnal, with or without urinary incontinence. OAB is a common affecting both men and women, although most common in women. OAB affects about one in eight women over the age of 40, one in four over 70 and one in three over 80. It is also common in sick elderly patients.

Clinically, there can be many reasons for OAB symptoms, including: benign prostatic hyperplasia, urogenital infection, urge incontinence, mixed urinary incontinence, postmenopausal female fertility, indwelling stents and urinary tract infections.

Overactive bladder seriously affects quality of life. Surveys have found that OAB has significant affects on social skills, occupational performance, general psychological health, sex life and general happiness.

Individuals with OAB may put up with the symptoms of OAB for many years. They do not seek help for a variety of reasons. They may be ashamed, do not know the condition can be treated, or simply have had a bad experience in previous treatments. At present, most doctors agree that there can be significant benefits in treating OAB resulting in a moderation of the symptoms and a better quality of life.

Treatments for OAB
• Drug therapy: The first line of treatment for OAB is drug therapy with products such as SheNITing and Setrole.
• Bladder training: Additional benefits can be obtained with some simple rules and urination training.
• Pelvic floor muscle training: Your doctor can also recommend physical therapy to strengthen pelvic floor muscles and exercises in urethral contractility.

Additional things to consider to moderate OAB
1. Reduce coffee and tea intake. Both contain caffeine which stimulates urination.
2. Keep your body warm, especially the lower body.
3. Obesity and constipation both aggravate OAB.
4. Avoid excessive water consumption.
